Is this Adelaide’s Sweetest Inclusive Playground?

Uncover Adelaide's Newest inclusive playground - Largs Bay Foreshore Ice Cream Playground

Finding activities where your child genuinely feels supported can be a challenge! Inclusive Kids Adelaide was created by a mum to make it easier for parents, reduce phone calls, and give you the confidence to step outside and try new activities with your family/child with support needs. We’re dedicated to advocating for more inclusive opportunities and sharing activities that cater to every child's needs. In this blog article, we explore the delights of the Largs Bay Foreshore Ice Cream Playground, a fun-filled destination with paly equipment for all abilities.

A Playground for Everyone

We’ve been eagerly watching the lead-up to this playground’s opening with excitement. Knowing it would be insanely busy, we chose a day before the official school holidays to visit. While there were a few people, it wasn’t overly packed as we had heard from friends who visited during the holidays.

Located on the foreshore and right next to the kiosk, this sweet themed playground makes for a great day out. In true Inclusive Kids Adelaide style, we focused on our six elements of inclusivity. NOTE... Toilets are still under construction and will be opening soon. Toilets will be located just outside the fenced playground.

  • Climbing Tower with Large Tunnel Slide: A favorite of my son, offering a thrilling adventure.

  • Climbable Soft-Serve Ice Cream Cup with Slide: Adds a sweet touch of fun.

  • Huge Ice Cream Mound with Slide and Climbing Holes: A standout feature.

  • Banana Split Themed Seesaw: Perfect for friends and wheelchairs.

  • Wheelchair Accessible Carousel: Inclusive fun for everyone.

  • Plus much more: You’ll have to explore and find out!

Watching our Kids Learn and Explore

One of my most favourite things about visiting a new playground is watching my son learn and explore. Mr, then 5, was initially hesitant about the climbing structure with the huge tunnel slide, as attractive as it looked! It took him 6 attempts to finally gain the confidence to get to the top without his anxiety taking over and climbing back down.

Seeing his face light up after each successful slide was priceless. We ended up staying for at least 13 slides down the huge tunnel slide and we’re definitely coming back on quieter days in summer to explore more.

Everything You Need to Know

  • Location and Accessibility: Largs Bay Foreshore Ice Cream Playground is located right next to the kiosk, on the foreshore cnr Lady Gowrie Dr & Jetty Rd.

  • Visit During Off-Peak Times: Given the experience of other community members in the school holidays, If you want to avoid crowds, try visiting early in the day or on a school day where possible.

  • Pack Snacks or a Picnic: The nearby kiosk offers great ice-creams and light meals, but we find having our own snacks can make the day smoother.

  • Prepare for the Weather: With shaded areas, the playground is great for sunny days, but bring right on the foreshore we still find it quite windy.

Thank You PAE: We love that The City of Port Adelaide Enfield have planned this fully inclusive playground and given opportunity for review and feedback via the PAE Participate programme. This playground sets a new standard for inclusive play spaces in Adelaide, providing a safe, welcoming, and fun environment for all children.
